The Newcastle Northstars are Newcastle and Lake Macquarie's most successful national sports team, playing in the Australian Ice Hockey League since 2002. The Northstars won the national championship (Goodall Cup) in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2015 and 2016. The team were grand finalists in 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2012.
