Christmas might be over, but we’re still in the holiday spirit and Call the Midwife is the gift that keeps on giving.

After Poplar's traumatic train crash, the midwives are ready to move forward and celebrate good health and the holidays.

Trixie returns from Italy just in time to celebrate Christmas with her friends...

And her beau

But everyone is shocked to learn that Sister Hilda has left Poplar to return to her work at the Mother House.

Sister Frances offers to take on extra work in Sister Hilda's absence, but it eventually proves to be too much.

Mother-to-be Cindy is released from prison, but she struggles to find any support in preparation for her baby.

A familiar face, Rhoda Mullucks, makes an appointment at Dr. Turner's clinic for baby number four.

But after her third child was born without limbs from thalidomide, she and husband Bernie worry about the future.

Yet with a little help from the midwives and their crew, they're able to get through the holidays as a united front.

Meanwhile, Fred plans a talent show to help raise funds - and cheer - for those impacted by the train accident last winter.

And he recruits Cyril, Reggie, Lucille and Timothy to help him organize the big event.

As Christmas nears, Matthew asks Nancy for her help to surprise Trixie with the gift of a lifetime.

And naturally, word travels quickly through Nonnatus House.

Later, Cindy gives birth to her daughter Melissa with Phyllis as her midwife.

And even Miss Higgins steps in to help Cindy get approved for a maternity allowance and a place to stay.

With all patients cared for, the group puts all their focus on the community talent show, Poplartunity Knocks.

Where Reggie performs a guitar solo...

And Miss Higgins plays her recorder for the crowd.

As the episode concludes, Matthew takes Trixie on a romantic evening stroll...

Where he finally proposes to her - and she says YES!
