The House of Representatives on Wed. voted to reject a resolution to expel NY Rep. George Santos from office.

The chamber voted 179–213 against the resolution; a two-thirds supermajority vote was needed to expel Santos. (NYT)

A group of House Republicans from New York introduced the resolution to the chamber last week.

Rep. Anthony D'Esposito introduced the resolution Thu., which was co-sponsored with three other New York Republicans. (WP)

GOP Reps. Marc Molinaro, Nick LaLota, and Mike Lawler co-sponsored the resolution; all four represent Biden districts. (WP)

Three of the bill's co-sponsors spoke out on the House floor Wed..

LaLota: "The consequences...of not expelling him for his lies...has the potential to do...damage to this institution."

Lawler: "All of us want to uphold the integrity of this institution."

New York Rep. Dan Goldman was the sole House Democrat to speak out in favor of the resolution Wed.. Here's what he said:

Santos also took to the House floor Wed. to defend himself against the resolution:

Santos: "Efforts taken by other members in this body to act as judge, jury and executioner are unconscionable..."

Santos is currently facing 23 felony charges, including identity theft, wire fraud, and money laundering. (AP)

Santos was arraigned in court on Fri. on 10 felony counts; he pled not guilty to all charges. (ABC7)

Santos is also under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, which has been probing him since March. (NYT)
