Jamie Lee Curtis was cast as Laurie Strode, the lead character. This was her first feature film.

But being the daughter of the original Scream Queen, Janet Leigh, was an excellent callback by John Carpenter.

The dark lighting comes from necessity; the crew didn't have enough money for more lights.

The film had a budget of $300,000 and made $47 million at the box office - a HUGE success.

The box office success of the film sparked a generation of slasher/horror films inspired by this one.
