A new report by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is sounding the alarm on climate inaction.

On Mon., the IPCC published the third and final installment of their sixth report on climate change. (NYT)

The 3K-page report warns that the world is on track to missing a critical climate target to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

The panel previously called on nations to limit warming to 1.5°C to prevent "irreversible damage" from climate change.

According to the IPCC, 2021 was the fifth warmest year on record, with the planet warming 1.1°C since the 1900s.

The panel called on nations to immediately switch to renewable energies from coal, oil, and natural gas. (CNN)

UN Secretary-General António Guterres: "[This report is] a file of shame, cataloging [nations'] empty pledges."

Guterres: "...cheaper, renewable solutions provide green jobs, energy security, and greater price stability."

What would it take to meet the 1.5°C threshold? All nations would have to limit their emissions by 43% by 2030. (NYT)

According to the IPCC, eliminating fossil fuel subsidies would reduce CO2 emissions by up to 10% by 2030. (NYT)

Guterres: "If you live in a big city, a rural area, or a small island state...I am appealing directly to you."

Guterres: "Demand an end to coal-fired power. Demand an end to all fossil fuel subsidies."
