Pres. Biden has formally announced his nominee to replace Justice Breyer on the Supreme Court: Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Biden announced his decision Fri. after a month-long search: "[She] will be an exceptional Justice."

If confirmed, Jackson would make history as the first Black woman to become a Supreme Court Justice. (AP)

If confirmed, Jackson would also make history as the first former public defender to serve on the Court in recent history.

In her remarks Fri., Jackson linked her nomination to the legacy of Judge Motley, the US's first Black woman federal judge.

Motley served as a federal judge from 1966–2005 and also made history as the first Black woman to argue before SCOTUS.

Senate Democratic leaders told CNN Fri. that they hoped to have a confirmation vote for Jackson by mid-April.
