Settle in for a history lesson!!

When you think of Gay Liberation Movements in the early '70s and '80s, you may think of white men leading the way.

But you should think of Marsha P. Johnson, a trans activist who was not afraid to stand up and take charge.

Marsha P. Johnson is most known for being a key figure during the Stonewall riots of 1969.

The Stonewall riots were a starting part of many other Gay Liberation movements including the Gay Pride parades of 1970.

She wanted nothing more than to see her community live their lives in peace, out of jail, and off the streets.

With fellow activist Sylvia Rivera, she founded STAR, an organization to help advocate for homeless trans youth.

She was also an advocate for AIDS research and treatment.

Despite many setbacks in life, she continued to fight for her community.

and for that, we salute her.

Thank you, Marsha.
