"Let's call it for what it is. This is an effort to make it harder for people of color to vote."

In wake of the 2020 election, GOP-led state legislatures across the nation are passing restrictive voting legislation.

According to the Brennan Center of Justice, as of March, 361 restrictive voting bills have been introduced in 47 states.

Per the BCJ's tracker, as of March, five bills restricting access to the ballot have been signed into law.

Here's a look at four state-level voting restriction efforts currently underway.

In Arizona, GOP legislators on Tue. passed a bill that would remove voters from the state's permanent early voting list.

What is the permanent early voting list? Voters who opt-in automatically receive a mail-in ballot every election. (NPR)

If signed into law, SB 1485 would automatically remove voters who didn't vote by mail in two election cycles. (NPR)

State Democrats decried the bill as an attempt to suppress voters of color and Native American voters on tribal lands.

In Texas, the state legislature is reviewing two GOP-sponsored bills that would restrict early voting and ballot access.

SB7, which passed the Texas state Senate in March, would end drive-thu voting and limit early voting hours. (KPRC 2)

If signed into law, SB7 would also require the same number of polling places per county, regardless of population. (KPRC 2)

Critics say the bill's polling restrictions would depress turnout in Texas' urban, mostly-Democratic counties.

In Florida, state Republicans are set to pass SB90, which would limit ballot drop-off box hours. (WUFT)

The bill would also require signature matching on all ballots, and designate a public employee to watch drop boxes. (WUFT)

The bill also requires voters to register to vote by mail every election cycle instead of two-year intervals. (WUFT)

SB90 is expected to be debated and voted on the Florida state House floor "as soon as this week." (APTV)

The bill was met with unanimous opposition from Florida’s Supervisors of Elections. All 67 members opposed the bill. (WUFT)

In Michigan, state Republicans have introduced 39 Senate bills aimed at overhauling the state's election system. (PCS)

Among them: SB285 would require absentee voters to mail a photocopy of their ID to request a mail-in ballot.

SB287 would prevent local elections officials from offering pre-paid return postage on mail-in ballots.

According to Detroit News, state Republicans are looking into ways to circumvent Dem. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's veto power.

The Detroit News reported that state Republicans would need 340K+ signatures to override Whitmer's veto to pass bills.
