According to the Brennan Center for Justice, 361 restrictive voting bills have been introduced in 47 states in 2021.

Both Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell showed up for the markup on Tue.

McConnell: "Our democracy is not in crisis."

Schumer: "Republican legislatures have seized on the big lie to restrict the franchise."

S.1 has a narrow path to passage: Republicans have vowed to filibuster the bill if it comes to the floor for a vote.

Democrats would need the support of 10 Republican Senators to pass the bill. So far, none have voiced their support.

One Democrat opposes the bill in its current form: WV Sen. Joe Manchin told WV MetroNews in April he would "vote no."
