Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been confirmed to SCOTUS, making history as the first Black woman to sit on the Court.

The U.S. Senate on Thu. voted 53–47 to confirm Judge Jackson to the Court. Three Republicans voted with Democrats.

Judge Jackson will take retiring Justice Stephen Breyer's seat on the Court. Breyer is set to retire this summer. (NYT)

Schumer: "Even in the darkest times, there are bright lights."

Schumer: "Today is one of the brightest lights. Let us hope it’s a metaphor, an indication of many bright lights to come."

Schumer: "How many millions of kids in generations past could have benefited from such a role model?"

Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock: "The people of Georgia made this appointment possible by making history."

Warnock: "Nobody’s going to steal my joy. Yes, I’m a senator, I’m a pastor...I’m the father of a young Black girl."

Warnock: "Seeing Judge Jackson ascend to the Supreme Court reflects the promise of progress on which our democracy rests."

Warnock: "I am beyond thrilled to speak for Georgia in voting to confirm her to the United States Supreme Court."

Among other historic firsts, Jackson is also the first Democratic nominee to be confirmed to the Court in nearly 12 years.
