Newly-elected UK PM Liz Truss on Tue. delivered her first speech as prime minister on the steps of 10 Downing Street.

Truss was formally appointed prime minister by Queen Elizabeth II in Scotland early Tue..

The Conservative Party announced Truss's victory in the leadership race on Mon.: Truss won the race with 57.4% of the vote.

Truss is the UK's fourth prime minister in six years, and the third woman ever to serve in the post. (WaPo)

Johnson resigned as prime minister in July after a series of scandals triggered mass resignations in his government.

Truss also said Tue. that rising energy bills and cost-of-living expenses would be the focus of her government.

Truss: "I will deal with the energy crisis caused by Putin’s war."

Truss: "I will take action this week to deal with energy bills and to secure our future energy supply."

Truss: "We need to build roads, homes and broadband faster."

Truss: "We need more investment and great jobs in every town and city across our country."

Truss: "We shouldn’t be daunted by the challenges we face."

Truss: "As strong as the storm may be, I know that the British people are stronger."
