It's been a week of newly sworn-in governors, surprise resignations, and civil disobedience. Here's a recap of the week.

1. For starters, Govs. Wes Moore and Josh Shapiro were sworn in this week in historic inaugurations.

Moore was sworn in as the governor of Maryland Wed., making history as the state's first Black governor. (WaPo)

Moore also made history as the nation's third elected Black governor. (WaPo)

Moore's running mate, Aruna Miller also made history as the state's first woman of color to serve as lieutenant governor.

Shapiro was sworn in as the governor of Pennsylvania on Tue., becoming the state's third Jewish governor. (WaPo)

Shapiro is also the first governor since 1966 to succeed a member of his own party. (CBS News)

2. The Golden State Warriors returned to the White House Tue. in their first official visit since 2016.

Pres. Biden and VP Harris welcomed the team to the White House with an event celebrating their 2022 NBA championship win.

The team also won championships in 2017 and 2018, but declined to visit the White House under then-Pres. Trump.

3. Activist Greta Thunberg was detained by police Tue. after protesting the expansion of a coal mine in Lützerath, Germany.

According to CNN, Thunberg was arrested alongside several other activists participating in a sit-in near the mining town.

Thunberg joined thousands of protestors in Lützerath over the weekend: on Sat., she spoke at a rally as the main speaker.

4. New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern announced her resignation Thu. after nearly six years and two terms in the post.

Ardern: "You cannot and should not do the job unless you have a full tank, plus a bit in reserve..."

Ardern is expected to serve as prime minister until Feb. 7. New Zealand's Labour party will vote Sun. on a new leader.
