Erika Mackinnon has built a focused and evolving career in medical sales over the past five years. Her professional strengths include business development, strategic planning, revenue optimization, market research, analysis, sales forecasting, product presentations, account management, and client relationship development. Since 2020, she has worked in medical device sales, concentrating on Spine. As a Spine Specialist and Sales Associate, she works daily in the operating room, providing technical support and ensuring optimal product use during surgical procedures.
Erika began her career in medical sales after completing a 440-hour postgraduate program at Medical Sales College in Sarasota, Florida. She earned a spine, orthopedic reconstruction, and trauma certification through this intensive training. The program equipped her with skills in regenerative medicine, orthopedic and trauma device knowledge, consultative selling, and practical business growth and territory expansion strategies.
Her training also included in-depth knowledge of spine procedures, biologics, sports medicine, orthopedic reconstruction, and trauma. Mackinnon studied anatomy, physiology, pathology, biomechanics, orthobiologics, and medical terminology and became proficient in operating room standards and hospital systems. These experiences prepared her to communicate effectively with medical professionals and support providers in selecting and using the right technologies during operations.
While completing her certification, Erika worked as a Sales Associate at SS Fusion Medica in Tampa, Florida. Her responsibilities included assisting with territory management, scheduling meetings with healthcare teams, and maintaining professional relationships with clinical and administrative personnel.
After a year, Mackinnon joined Globus Medical in Memphis, Tennessee, where she has spent the last four years contributing to sales performance, expanding market presence, and strengthening client connections. She has supported various surgical procedures, including ACDF, PCF, TLIF, PLIF, ALIF, lateral lumbar interbody fusion, and complex deformity corrections.
Erika earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Florida State University in 2016. Early in her career, she served as a Chief Legislative Intern in the Florida Senate, where she drafted documents, monitored legislation, and met with various stakeholders. She later worked as a junior lobbyist and political fundraiser, gaining experience in public policy and constituent engagement.
Her background includes serving as a Business Development Analyst at GSSP in Stamford, Connecticut. In that role, Mackinnon was involved in policy analysis, strategic advising, and managing real estate and tax equity transactions. She later became Deputy Finance Director at The O’Rourke Group, where she developed donor relations, organized outreach efforts, and conducted research to support political and nonprofit fundraising campaigns.
Erika holds additional certifications, including AdvaMed Code of Ethics, HIPAA, Aseptic Technique and Infection Control, Bloodborne Pathogens, Electrical Safety, Fire Safety, National Patient Safety, and Protocol Certification.
Outside of work, Mackinnon has a strong interest in interior design. After purchasing her home, she transformed it with a blend of vintage, modern, and traditional styles. She enjoys repurposing antique items and creating functional spaces with character. Though it is a personal interest, she has considered pursuing it further.
As a mother of two, Erika enjoys cooking and is known among her family and friends for preparing appealing and thoughtful meals. Her time in the kitchen allows her to combine creativity with care.
She actively supports the Salvation Army and the Humane Society, reflecting her dedication to giving back and supporting causes that align with her values.
