Mark Adams CRG

@markadamscrg
Mark Adams, founder and President of California Receivership Group (CRG), has spent over 25 years improving distressed properties and transforming communities across California, Tennessee, and Texas. Through his leadership, CRG has rehabilitated 415 properties, handling $62.5 million in rehab loans that have been fully repaid. These efforts have restored buildings and created around 1,500 jobs, making a significant economic impact in the neighborhoods where CRG operates. CRG specializes in receivership, a legal tool that allows courts to take control of distressed properties to address safety hazards and other issues. Under Adams' guidance, CRG has been able to take on a variety of challenging properties, including fire-damaged buildings, homes affected by hoarding, abandoned structures, and properties contaminated by hazardous materials. Through receivership, he and his team stabilize these properties, begin the cleanup process, and oversee rehabilitation, restoring them to safe, functional conditions. This approach has proven to be an effective and timely solution for problems other property management methods fail to address. Adams established Texas Receivership Group (TxRG) and Tennessee Receivership Group (TRG), expanding his reach beyond California and bringing CRG’s successful receivership model to new areas. TxRG has already completed two appointments in Dallas, while TRG recently completed its 36th property in Memphis. These expansions reflect his vision of extending CRG’s work to other communities in need, providing the same transformative services that have benefited California communities for decades. Receiver Mark Adams' influence extends beyond his direct work with CRG. He co-founded the Vacant Property Receivership Consortium (VPRC), a nonprofit organization promoting the use of receivership for revitalizing vacant and distressed properties. Through his work with VPRC, he has advocated for policies that support the use of receivership and raised awareness about its potential to transform communities. He has also spoken at conferences like the Receivership Roundtable and the Center for Community Progress National Land Bank Network Summit, where he has shared his expertise and insights with fellow industry professionals. In 2020, after the Los Angeles wildfires, Adams contributed an article to Receivership News, a publication of the California Receivers Forum. In the article, he discussed how receivership could help stabilize fire-damaged properties, secure them, and begin the cleanup and rehabilitation process. His focus on post-disaster recovery highlighted the critical role that receivership can play in rebuilding communities after disasters, showing how timely intervention can prevent further damage and protect public health. Adams’ career in receivership began in 1999 when he became the first court-appointed receiver under California's Health and Safety Code. His first assignment involved remediating unsafe conditions at a 66-unit apartment complex, marking the first use of receivership for nuisance abatement. Since then, he has worked on many properties, including residential, commercial, and industrial sites, always restoring them to safe, habitable conditions. Adams has received several awards for his work throughout his career, including the Distinguished Entrepreneurial Alumnus Award from Loyola Marymount University. His leadership in the receivership industry has earned him a reputation as one of the top professionals in the field. Mark Adams’ work continues to make a lasting impact on communities across the United States. Through CRG and his expansion into other states, he has helped transform distressed properties into valuable community assets. His expertise and commitment to revitalizing neighborhoods remain central to his work, ensuring that his contributions to property rehabilitation will benefit communities for years.
