The Burgebracher Kerwa is probably the most important festival in the district of Bamberg.
At least you can say that for everyone in Burgebrach. The whole year revolves around the Kerwa and the Kerwasburschen and Madla have become an important part of village life.
The Burgebracher Kerwa always takes place on the Sunday after Michaelmas. Michaelmas is September 29th - so the Kerwa is usually on the first weekend in October, but the Kerwa Sunday could also be September 30th. But we'll leave the math to you.
The Kerwa starts with the shooting-in on Thursday. On Friday of the following week, the Kerwa ends with the funeral.
The origin of the Kerwa goes back to the consecration of the church. However, this reason has been increasingly forgotten.
