TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world. TED jest globalną instytucją stworzoną dla promowania „idei wartych rozpowszechniania”. Pierwsza konferencja w ramach TED odbyła się w 1984 roku i od tej pory w unikalny sposób łączy ludzi z trzech różnych światów: technologii, rozrywki (entertainment) i designu. Podczas konferencji organizowanych przez TED występowali już tacy mówcy jak: Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Bono czy Larry Page i Sergiej Brin.
