Teohinui Dance School was created in January 2018 by Terevarevahaunui, a Tahitian native who moved to Maui, Hawai’i at 19yo. Terevareva comes from a family of cultural practitioners and ‘ori tahiti dancers, singers, and musicians. She was born in the great world of dancing. Her Mother, the late Muriel Fontaine, a dancer herself, supported her passion for dancing from the beginning. Her sister, Heira’i Lehartel, has won the reputable title of Best Solo dancer at the Heiva i Tahiti in 1989, 1992, and 1995. Terevareva started her dancing endeavor at the Conservatoire de Tahiti at 13yo, where she learned many techniques in dancing as well as singing. She enters her first Heiva i Tahiti then with Kei Tawhiti Nui. At 14yo, she auditions for the “Grands Ballets de Tahiti” and dances with the troupe for 3 years. In 2002, then a senior in high school, she enters the Heiva i Tahiti with Ahutoru Nui (from Arue) and represents them as the solo dancer, winning third place. ‘Ori Tahiti has been a passion and a drive in many ways for Terevareva. After her mom passed away, she decides to honor her mom by opening her own dance school in Maui in 2018.
