Roger Kasendorf, DO

@rogerkasendorfdo
Roger Kasendorf, DO, is a board-certified osteopathic physician and physiatrist specializing in pain management, physical medicine, and rehabilitation. He practices in the San Diego area and treats patients with musculoskeletal disorders, acute injuries, and chronic pain, including pain that has remained unresolved for years. He also teaches at three osteopathic medical schools, serves as an examiner for his specialty boards, and works on medicolegal matters as an independent medical examiner and expert witness. His clinical philosophy focuses on identifying what patients struggle to do and helping them regain function, rather than concentrating solely on a diagnosis. Dr. Kasendorf earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1999. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003. His postgraduate training included a traditional rotating internship at North Shore University Hospital at Plainview and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Nassau University Medical Center. He served as Chief Resident from 2006 to 2007. He holds board certifications in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain management and is licensed in California, Nevada, Texas, Wyoming, and Alaska. Dr. Kasendorf's career has included clinical practice on both coasts. He operated his own practice in Long Beach, New York, and La Jolla, California, from 2009 through 2015. He also worked as a physiatrist and Director of Sports Medicine at Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics. He has maintained an affiliation with Scripps Memorial Hospital since 2014 and has practiced with Ortho 1 Medical Group since January 2026. Dr. Kasendorf's clinical services include osteopathic manipulation, acute and chronic pain management, care for arthritis and rheumatological conditions, cancer pain management, regenerative medicine, and rehabilitation. He performs trigger point, joint, spinal, facet, and hyaluronic acid injections and uses Botox for migraines and muscle spasticity. He also uses EMG and musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic evaluation. His treatment planning considers the relationship among tendons, ligaments, joints, muscles, bones, nerves, and the brain, while coordination with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other physicians supports patient care. Since 2016, Dr. Kasendorf has maintained a medicolegal consulting practice, providing independent medical evaluations, case merit reviews, medical record reviews, expert reports, depositions, and trial testimony. His career also includes academic appointments, CME presentations, published clinical work, medical board review, and specialty board service. His recognition includes La Jolla Top Doctor in 2020, 2021, and 2022, California Top Osteopathic Physician in September 2020, Continental Who's Who in 2020, and Best Osteopath at the 2021 GHP Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards. Roger Kasendorf, DO, continues to balance clinical care, teaching, professional board responsibilities, and medicolegal consulting while maintaining his focus on improving function and helping patients regain activities affected by pain and physical limitations.
