@ericgreitens
Eric Greitens began his educational journey in the Missouri public school system, where his academic achievements earned him the prestigious Angier B. Duke Scholarship. This scholarship enabled him to attend Duke University, where he focused his studies on ethics, philosophy, and public policy. These areas of study would go on to influence his career and his approach to leadership. His academic excellence was further recognized when he was selected as both a Rhodes Scholar and a Truman Scholar. This recognition allowed him to continue his education at the University of Oxford, where he earned a master's degree in 1998, followed by a Ph.D. in 2000. His doctoral research, titled "Children First," explored the best practices for international humanitarian organizations in serving children affected by war, highlighting his early commitment to addressing global challenges. Throughout his career, he has been deeply involved in humanitarian work. His efforts have taken him to some of the world's most challenging regions, including Rwanda, Cambodia, Albania, Mexico, India, Bosnia, and Bolivia. In these countries, he worked as a volunteer, documentary photographer, and researcher, focusing on issues related to conflict, poverty, and human rights. These experiences provided him with a global perspective on the complex issues facing vulnerable populations. His dedication to service extended to his military career, where he served as a United States Navy SEAL officer. During the Global War on Terrorism, he deployed four times to critical regions such as Afghanistan, Southeast Asia, the Horn of Africa, and Iraq. In these roles, he led various operations, including commanding a Mark V Special Operations Craft Detachment, a Joint Special Operations Task Unit, and an al Qaeda Targeting Cell. His leadership in these challenging environments showcased his ability to navigate complex situations and lead teams effectively. In 2005, he was appointed by President George W. Bush as a White House Fellow, a role that further broadened his understanding of national and international policy. Throughout his military career, Eric received numerous awards, including the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star. In 2011, he was named the Navy Reserve Junior Line Officer of the Year by the Association of the United States Navy.
