Brian Kersten, a Veterinarian, has been a pillar in the veterinary community, tirelessly working to provide top-quality care to animals and aid underserved populations. Growing up on a Wisconsin farm, his early exposure to animals kindled a lifelong passion for veterinary science. He pursued this calling with a degree in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota, graduating with high distinction in 1977. His academic achievements set the stage for his eventual leadership roles in the veterinary field. As the founder and owner of Mercy Veterinary Service in Baldwin, Wisconsin, he launched the clinic in 2021 to offer affordable veterinary care, ensuring that economic hardships do not prevent pets from receiving necessary treatment. This initiative highlights his profound commitment to animal welfare and community service, allowing him to practice small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Brian's dedication is reflected daily as he earns his clients' and his peers' trust and appreciation. Additionally, he serves as a relief veterinarian in Amery, Wisconsin. This role broadens his influence, allowing him to support various veterinary practices and extend his compassionate services across the community. His professional journey began after earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. Initially, he worked in a mixed animal practice in Burlington, Wisconsin, where he honed his skills and deepened his knowledge of animal healthcare. In 1985, he temporarily shifted his focus towards humanitarian efforts, spending two and a half years in Haiti. There, he devoted himself to aiding the rural poor, underscoring his dedication to animal health and human welfare. Returning to the U.S. in 1987, Brian took over a mixed animal practice in Baldwin and later became the President of the Pierce St. Croix Humane Society from 2001 to 2003. Even after selling his practice in 2016, his zeal for animal care remained undiminished, leading him to establish a low-cost clinic. Outside the confines of veterinary practices, he is equally committed to philanthropy. He volunteers at Today's Harvest Food Shelf, helping to address food insecurity in his community. His support for the Mercy Corps underscores his commitment to global humanitarian efforts, and his work with the Barefoot Crow Animal Rescue ensures that rescued animals receive much-needed medical care. On a personal note, Brian balances a rich family life with his professional duties, enjoying time with his wife and four adult children. His hobbies include playing the guitar, a pursuit that mirrors his professional life in its demands for continual learning and improvement. Gardening, reading, and exercising are also integral to his life, offering him personal fulfillment and a way to recharge. As Brian Kersten, a Veterinarian, celebrates the 40th anniversary of his veterinary school graduation in 2023, his career is a beacon of dedication, compassion, and sustained impact. Whether through direct animal care, his innovative clinic, or his charitable work, he remains an inspiring figure in his community and the broader field of veterinary medicine. His legacy is defined by his unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of animals and people, serving as a professional and personal excellence model.
