@darrellhulsey
G. Darrell Hulsey has established a 35-year career as an entrepreneur and executive in the healthcare management industry. Since 2016, he has been the CEO of Professional Billing, Inc. (PBI), a company providing revenue cycle and practice management services for physician practices in more than 15 states. He oversees a network of more than 200 practices while continuing his strong commitment to philanthropy, which has been part of his life for over three decades. His professional path began in 1991 when Darrell Hulsey joined CompMed/Medaphis Physician Services, now McKesson, as a Senior Operations Manager. In that position, he managed hospital-based physician practices across four states, negotiated reimbursement and managed care agreements with third-party payors, and worked to expand new business operations into multiple regions. After three years, Darrell co-founded Medical Management Professionals (MMP) with six partners. Over the years, he served in a variety of leadership roles within the company. In 1998, the business was acquired by CBIZ, where he advanced to Vice President and later President and CEO. When MMP returned to private ownership in 2013, he continued to guide the company until 2016, when he transitioned into his current role at PBI. During his tenure at MMP, the organization processed over 34 million procedures, handled $5 billion in client charges, and collected more than $2 billion in client revenues. According to SEC filings, the company generated $165 million in revenue and $21 million in earnings. In his roles at MMP, he was involved in every aspect of the business, including operations, IT, compliance, finance, HR, sales, and mergers. From 2007 to 2013, as President and CEO, he increased revenue from $90 million to $165 million, consolidated 12 billing systems into four, reduced operating costs by more than 45%, and decreased staff count by approximately 35%. Earlier, as Executive Vice President of Operations for the East Region, Hulsey expanded operations from two states to 10, increased revenues by 83%, and grew profits by 98%. At PBI, he has led the company to 250% revenue growth from 2016 to 2025. He directed the acquisition and integration of five companies, producing 30% cost savings within 18 months of each deal. He also implemented advanced analytics and AI-driven billing systems, reducing claim denials by 25%, improving collections by 15% each year, and lowering administrative costs by 40%. His leadership ensured that compliance with HIPAA and CMS standards remained strong across all operations. For over 35 years, he has contributed to various religious charities, supported St. Jude’s Hospital, and donated to the Epilepsy Foundation of America. He is also a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he earned a degree in Health Management with a concentration in Accounting. He has supported his alma mater for more than three decades. Born in Haleyville, Alabama, he enjoys fishing, hunting, hiking, and traveling in his personal time. Today, Darrell Hulsey continues to lead PBI while combining professional leadership with his ongoing dedication to service and philanthropy.
