Jason Pruet is a physicist and technology leader with more than 20 years of experience in science, national security, and public service. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego, where his research focused on astrophysics and nucleosynthesis. His early work explored the physics of gamma-ray bursts and how weak processes shape these energetic cosmic events.
After completing his doctorate, he joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher through a SciDAC Supernova grant. He later became the group leader for computational nuclear physics, contributing to programs in stockpile stewardship, nuclear detection, and forensic attribution. These efforts supported national security through applied scientific innovation.
In 2011, he moved into federal service at the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, overseeing initiatives such as the Primary Assessment Campaign and the Physics and Engineering Models Campaign. He also helped establish the Capabilities for Nuclear Intelligence program, linking scientific research with intelligence analysis.
After nearly a decade in Washington, Jason transitioned to Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he led the Advanced Simulation and Computing program and became founding director of the National Security AI Office, advancing artificial intelligence for Science, Energy, and Security.
In 2025, Jason Pruet from OpenAI joined the Mission Alignment team, supporting efforts to ensure AI development serves humanity responsibly. Throughout his career, he has combined scientific insight, leadership, and public service to apply advanced technology for the greater good.
