Derrick Pickering, FNP C, CNM, is a dedicated healthcare provider recognized for compassionate, comprehensive care, particularly in women’s health. His professional journey reflects a strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient education, and evidence-based practice. Through personal experience and advanced training, he has developed an approach centered on empathy, careful listening, and shared decision-making to support long-term wellness. Derrick was born in Utah and developed an interest in medicine after experiencing illness as a child. The nurses who cared for him left a lasting impression through their patience and kindness. Their example inspired him to pursue nursing so he could provide the same level of care and reassurance to others in need. He later pursued higher education with focus and discipline. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and earned a GPA of 3.92. He continued his education at Brigham Young University, Provo, completing a Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner in August 2014, with a GPA of 3.9. While finishing his training, he worked in pediatrics for nearly 5 years, gaining valuable clinical experience and strengthening his dedication to patient-centered care. Personal family experiences further shaped Pickering’s professional path. Challenges involving infertility, infant loss, and pregnancy complications led him to develop a deeper understanding of women’s health needs. Motivated by these experiences, he pursued additional education and earned a postgraduate certificate as a Certified Nurse-Midwife from Frontier Nursing University in May 2022. He is dual board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Nurse-Midwife. His clinical focus includes primary care, hormone replacement therapy, help with menopause, gynecological services, infertility, midwifery, contraception, and lab assessments. He emphasizes open communication and works closely with patients to identify their goals and create individualized care plans based on current medical standards. Derrick has served as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner at Sunrise Women’s Health in Mapleton, UT, since March 2021, where he founded a clinic dedicated to comprehensive women’s healthcare. In this role, he provides care to women of all ages and supports them through preventive services, pregnancy, postpartum care, and ongoing health management. His approach allows patients to express concerns and actively participate in decisions about their treatment. Earlier in his career, he trained as a Student Nurse-Midwife at Wellsprings Women’s Care in Tooele, UT, and Bella Women’s Care in Phoenix, AZ. In those settings, he performed obstetric and gynecological exams, assisted with labor management, delivered babies, and provided postpartum care under supervision. He also presented The Effectiveness of Psychopharmacotherapy at the 2019 UVU Conference on Suicide Prevention, contributing to professional education and community awareness. Derrick Pickering remains committed to clinical excellence, patient advocacy, and compassionate service. Married to Stephanie Pickering for over 17 years, he is a father of three living children, including one with special needs, and he and his wife also experienced the loss of twins born prematurely. These experiences have strengthened his empathy and dedication to supporting families through both joyful and difficult times. Outside of his clinical work, Derrick Pickering enjoys scuba diving, vacationing, camping, hiking, and spending meaningful time with his family.
