The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting U.S. Army Special Forces Soldiers, their families, caregivers, and surviving loved ones. Since its founding in 2009, the Foundation has been a vital resource for the Green Beret community, providing direct assistance and tailored programs that meet their distinct physical, emotional, and transitional needs. Headquartered in Southern Pines, North Carolina, the Foundation’s mission is to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s elite warriors by ensuring they and their families receive the care, recognition, and support they deserve.
The Foundation was created by Aaron Anderson, a Special Forces Soldier wounded in combat who recognized a profound lack of sustained care and resources for injured Green Berets. His vision led to the establishment of the Green Beret Foundation in 2009, aimed at closing these gaps and providing a comprehensive support system for Soldiers and their families during times of need. From its inception, GBF has evolved into a trusted national organization that supports Green Berets throughout all phases of their lives—during active service, recovery, transition, and beyond. Its work ensures that no Green Beret or family member faces hardship alone.
GBF offers a diverse range of programs designed to enhance resilience, foster recovery, and support families. Through its Health & Wellness initiatives, the Foundation supports mental, physical, and emotional well-being by offering access to evidence-based therapies and advanced recovery methods. These include treatments such as Stellate Ganglion Block for post-traumatic stress, infrared light therapy, and recovery systems that promote overall health and readiness. Within this pillar, Task Force Tatanka plays a crucial role in supporting mental wellness through peer connection, family engagement, and culturally aligned approaches that reflect the unique experiences of the Special Forces Regiment.
The Foundation’s Casualty Support program provides immediate financial assistance to Soldiers and their families during medical emergencies or injuries, covering costs like travel, lodging, and care-related expenses. GBF also extends enduring support to Gold Star families and survivors through ongoing advocacy, financial relief, and community-building programs that honor the memory of fallen Green Berets. Its Next Ridgeline program helps Soldiers transition into civilian life by providing tailored career resources, educational guidance, and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, the Foundation’s Veteran Services Officers assist with VA benefits and claims, ensuring long-term financial stability for Green Berets and their families.
The Foundation also supports families through programs such as Steel Mags, a network for spouses, caregivers, and survivors that fosters empowerment and connection. Educational scholarships for spouses and children further strengthen the Foundation’s dedication to family well-being and opportunity. Since its inception, the Green Beret Foundation has provided over $28 million in direct assistance and supported more than 26,000 families worldwide. Upholding a strong standard of accountability, 84 percent of every dollar raised goes directly toward its programs. Guided by integrity, transparency, and service, the Green Beret Foundation continues to honor the legacy of America’s Quiet Professionals—standing beside them and their families with compassion, respect, and enduring commitment.
