Dr. Nishi Patel, M.D., is a dedicated cardiovascular specialist whose work is shaping the future of heart failure and critical cardiac care. Based at WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel is recognized for his dedication to clinical excellence and patient advocacy, particularly for individuals facing the most severe forms of heart disease. He also holds the prestigious position of National Director of Cardiac Imaging at Access Physicians/SOC Telemedicine, where he directs national programs to enhance access to expert cardiac imaging and telehealth care in rural and underserved communities. Dr. Patel’s educational background is extensive. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Drexel University in 2009 and subsequently earned his Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2013. After completing his internship and residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, he pursued fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Patel is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac Computed Tomography (CT), and Nuclear Cardiology. At WellSpan York Hospital, Dr. Patel plays a pivotal role in developing advanced therapies for critically ill patients, including the use of ECMO, Impella, and LVAD support. His vision is to keep patients close to home while providing care that meets or exceeds that of large academic centers. He has led the growth of the hospital’s heart failure program and is pioneering a clinic specifically for survivors of cardiogenic shock. Dr. Patel’s work goes beyond acute care—he is a strong advocate for preventive medicine, implementing remote monitoring solutions such as CardioMEMS, and developing protocols for virtual and molecular autopsies to identify genetic heart risks for surviving family members. Dr. Patel’s influence extends nationwide through his leadership in telemedicine. As National Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Telecare, he has championed the integration of advanced imaging and cardiovascular diagnostics in rural hospitals, closing critical care gaps and enabling local physicians to provide expert care in their communities. In the academic arena, Nishi Patel is actively engaged in research on heart failure therapies, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiac genetics. His work has been presented at major conferences and published in respected medical journals. He serves as Editor-in-Chief for Cardiology and Cardiac CT at StatPearls and is a peer reviewer for multiple scientific publications. Dr. Patel is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, having been honored with the Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence. A passionate educator, mentor, and community supporter, Dr. Patel is involved with several nonprofits and enjoys practicing martial arts and exploring the outdoors.
