Sam Menzin is a sports executive and entrepreneur whose career has focused on baseball operations, athlete development, recruiting strategy, and organizational leadership. As the founder and CEO of Campus Edge Baseball, he has applied years of experience in player evaluation, analytics, and relationship management to help student-athletes pursue collegiate opportunities. His professional background includes work in player acquisition, contract negotiations, salary arbitration, and sports consulting, providing him with a broad understanding of both the business and competitive sides of baseball.
In 2025, Sam founded Campus Edge Baseball and developed a recruiting platform designed to support student-athletes throughout the college recruiting process. The organization offers personalized guidance and utilizes proprietary tools, including athlete profiles, coach and school databases, school-match applications, and recruiting strategy resources. As CEO, Menzin oversees all major business functions, including sales, marketing, website development, social media management, client onboarding, analytics, financial tracking, video optimization, and NCAA compliance. He also works closely with baseball showcase events and maintains relationships with coaches from Division I, Division II, Division III, and junior college programs to help athletes gain recruiting exposure.
Beyond his work with Campus Edge Baseball, he serves as an analyst with Woods Capital and is the founder and principal of SJM Sports. Through these roles, Sam advises investors, ownership groups, and private equity firms evaluating sports assets, team acquisitions, and operational strategies. His consulting work reflects his interest in the business side of sports and his experience working with organizations at different levels of competition.
His passion for baseball developed at an early age and was strengthened during his teenage years after reading Moneyball. The book introduced him to the analytical side of the game and influenced his long-term interest in baseball operations. While attending Swarthmore College, Menzin played four years of varsity baseball and earned the 2012 Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award. During his college years, he also worked as Assistant Director at the Complete Game Institute for two years, where he managed the Pitching Biomechanics Facility, organized pitching camps, and utilized high-speed video technology to support player development.
His early professional experience included internships with several respected baseball organizations. With the New York Mets, Sam worked in Corporate Sales, assisting with client relations, corporate activations, stadium tours, and game-day responsibilities. He also spent two years with Turner-Gary Sports in Baseball Operations, where he gained experience in salary arbitration, statistical analysis, market evaluation, free-agent strategy, and player representation. During that time, he contributed to the development of the agency's website. In 2012, he joined the Detroit Tigers as an intern in Baseball Operations, helping prepare salary arbitration cases, analyze negotiation data, evaluate players, and assess potential trade targets.
His career with the Detroit Tigers spanned 14 years and demonstrated steady professional growth. Starting as an intern, Menzin advanced through analyst, coordinator, and director positions before being promoted to Vice President and Assistant General Manager in 2021. In that role, he led teams across scouting, medical, performance, and player experience departments. He contributed to player acquisition efforts, contract negotiations, salary arbitration matters, and capital investment initiatives totaling more than $100 million. He also served as the club's interim point of contact during a transition involving the President of Baseball Operations.
Academically, Sam earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Psychology from Swarthmore College. During his undergraduate studies, he participated in a study abroad program in Rome, Italy. He is currently completing an Executive Master of Business Administration at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business and is expected to graduate in 2027. Raised in Westbury, New York, he attended Friends Academy High School before continuing his academic and athletic journey.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Sam Menzin maintains interests in baseball leadership, scouting, statistical analysis, sports investments, construction and design projects, and contract negotiations. He also enjoys cooking, running, skiing, biking, yoga, and chess. In 2023, he completed the Detroit Marathon and raised $17,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He has also volunteered with NOSH Food Kitchen in Glen Cove, New York, and Mission City in Detroit.
