Thomas Kuriakose, MD, is a physician based in New York, NY, specializing in pediatric critical care. He is a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellow at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In 2022, he completed his pediatric residency through the Boston Combined Residency Program at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. His work has consistently focused on improving healthcare delivery for underserved populations. Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Economics from a college in Massachusetts. After graduation, he joined a teaching program in Mississippi, where he spent three years instructing high school students in Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, Statistics, and SATP Biology. His students regularly exceeded state testing averages. Alongside teaching, he served as an assistant coach for track and field and soccer, leading several athletes to success at the state level. These experiences solidified his passion for working with youth and informed his decision to enter the field of medicine. Thomas later earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction before enrolling in medical school in New Jersey. During his medical education, he co-founded a mentorship program for adolescents living with HIV and held leadership roles in a student-run free clinic, eventually serving as its director. He was also involved in implementing a team-based communication and safety training initiative. His contributions were recognized with a distinction for service to the community. During residency, Thomas contributed to curriculum development and participated in health equity programs. As a fellow, his research focuses on improving provider-family communication in pediatric intensive care units, particularly in cases of acute respiratory failure. He also helped establish Health Equity Rounds within his department, promoting a better understanding of systemic disparities in healthcare. Thomas Kuriakose, MD, continues to integrate his experience in education, clinical care, and advocacy to support critically ill children and improve outcomes for families from underserved communities.
