Born in Connecticut, and basically raised on skates since the age of 5, all signs pointed to P.J. Pacifico skating towards the path of a promising young hockey phenom, which he’d always dreamed of, and almost pursued when he was offered a spot on a squad for a notable university in the North East. However, during this same timeframe, P.J. was witness to his mother’s barbershop quartet rehearsals, which were regularly held in their own kitchen, and was also honing his skills on drums for about 10 of those same years. The way it worked out, when it came time for college and the hockey offer was on the table, Pacifico foresaw his own future and it became clear that a career in hockey was no longer a path that he desired or was willing to commit to. To the initial horror, shock and dismay of his parents, he decided to turn down invitations to join exclusive hockey clubs and instead set his goals on being a creative person, eventually enrolling in art school, which gave him the freedom to learn guitar, sing, and become a songwriter. P.J. Pacifico’s career got off to a fast start when his 2006 debut single, a ukulele-driven cover of “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” became a staple on SiriusXM’s The Coffeehouse. He was then quickly caught up in the album and tour cycle, averaging 125-150 U.S. and European gigs a year in support of his albums Always & Everywhere (2009), the Dave O’Donnell produced Outlet (2011), Surface (2012), the EP Overlooking the Obvious (2013) and several singles, including “Gin & Juice” (cover of Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice,” arranged with frequent collaborator Garrison Starr) and “Reaching.” In 2015, Pacifico released his EP Ready to Run (co-produced by Starr and AG), which led him to sign a licensing deal with Razor & Tie Publishing (now Concord) just before the project’s drop date. The EP’s first song, “All for Something,” was quickly licensed to “Switched at Birth” on ABC Family and “Heartland” on CBC in Canada. Over the years, Pacifico’s songs have been heard on Showtime (“Shameless”), HBO (“Hard Knocks”), MTV (“Teen Mom 2”), ABC, FOX, Syfy and many other networks. So, after years of being immersed behind the scenes as a songwriter, scoring a multitude of sync licensing placements for commercials and popular TV shows, P.J. Pacifico is once again ready to step back to the front and show why the songs he writes, largely drawn from his own real life experiences, are so relatable and universal.
