A giant ‘X’ was installed on top of a San Francisco building formerly known as Twitter headquarters following a rebrand announced by owner Elon Musk. Footage of the installation was captured by a California resident who said they recorded it at about 11:05pm (PST). The source told Storyful as the new sign was being installed, the old Twitter sign was being removed. The video shows a large ‘X’ flashing and workers can be seen on both the roof and in a cherry picker near the Twitter sign. Flashing 'X' Sign Removed From San Francisco 'Twitter' HQ Following City Complaints

The flashing ‘X’ sign atop the San Francisco, California, headquarters of Elon Musk’s company, the platform formally known as Twitter, was removed on Monday, July 31, three days after it was installed. San Francisco’s Department of Building Inspection (DBI) issued a notice violation against the company on Friday, July 28, saying the sign had been installed without the necessary permit. Patrick Hannan, a spokesman for the DBI, told CNN they received 24 complaints about the ‘X’ logo over the weekend including concerns about its structural safety and illumination. Local residents expressed this sentiment online, sharing footage of the sign flashing as a strobe light at night. The DBI says Musk’s company will be fined for building permits, the removal of the structure, and for the costs of DBI and the planning department’s investigation.
