London-based Shaqdi is an outsider talent changing the rules of the game. The name comes from her Palestinian father, and the sound of debut EP Colorless is all her own – gorgeous future-soul on an electronic tip, channelling R&B influences as far apart as The Neptunes, Erykah Badu and the crucial Los Angeles beat crew Soulection. Bringing her lyrics together from scraps of paper and endless voice notes on her phone, Shaqdi’s material is highly personal. Backed by 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova, fully embraced by Spotify, the Swedish-born artist is justifiably proud of Colorless but she’s already looking to the next challenge, the next project, the next release.
