Alkionides Charity came to be after a group of women got together to help a little girl Stefania receive the hospital treatment she needed for her heart problem. Since then, the organisation has grown dramatically, helping Cypriots across the island. We have a branch in Cyprus supporting families there and since 2008 a branch in the UK. In 2008, we set up Alkionides UK to help disadvantaged Cypriot patients coming to the UK for medical treatment in UK hospitals that cannot be offered in Cyprus. To date, our 'nest' has housed over 150 families and a week has not gone by in the last 7 years when the 'nest' was empty! Alkionides Charity's committee members and supporters in both Cyprus and the UK are volunteers. Our aim is to keep the cost of running the charity to an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM so that all the funds raised reach those in need.
