Wet snow came down in parts of Vermont on Sunday, December 3, leaving thousands across New England  without power on Monday morning, according to reports. Video taken by @VermonsterWx shows what he called “gigantic snowflakes” falling in Readsboro, a town near the southern border of Vermont, on Sunday night. According to a power outage tracker, more than 6,000 customers had no electricity as of 10 am Monday, with more than 26,300 Maine residents also without power. 'Gigantic Snowflakes' Fall in Southern Vermont

Eleven mountain climbers were confirmed dead and 26 more were trapped following the eruption of Mount Marapi in west Sumatra, the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (BNPB) reported on Monday, December 4. According to BNPB, Marapi continued to spew volcanic ash throughout Monday, which made it difficult for the teams to evacuate the 26 climbers who were thought still trapped on the mountain. As of Monday, the 11 bodies were not identified, and the authorities did not discard the possibility that once identified, their descriptions could match those of some of the 26 climbers yet to be found. At Least 11 Killed by Indonesia's Marapi Volcano Eruption

A 5-0 drubbing at the hands of their city rivals in Colombian soccer’s own “El Clasico” was too much to take for fans of Atletico Nacional, with violent scenes erupting in the stands as Independiente Medellin closed in on an easy win on December 3. Video here shows the anger boiling over at the Estadio Polideportivo Sur, with scuffles seen between fans in Nacional’s green and white and stewards in yellow. The fans started throwing bottles and other objects, local media said. The violent scenes led referee Jhon Hinestroza to pause the game, before he abandoned it around 10 minutes early. A keen-eyed customer spotted a red-bellied black snake behind an ATM in Queensland recently, before a catcher was called in to make the withdrawal. Red-bellied black snakes are one of the most frequently encountered snakes on the east coast of Australia, and are responsible for a number of bites every year, according to the Australian Museum. An orphaned six-month-old wombat named Waldo showed its agility recently, by pouncing on a stuffed toy koala. Port Stephens Koala Hospital, based in New South Wales, posted the adorable video on November 29. “He is keeping us busy and entertained with his antics,” the hospital said. “Despite his sturdy physique, short legs, and bear-like appearance,” wombats like Waldo “can reach a running speed of 40 km/h,” they added. Snowstorm Blows Into Northeast Canada

Winter weather advisories remained in effect for parts of Maine on Monday, December 4, as the National Weather Service (NWS) warned of possible snow accumulations over a foot as a storm lingered. Footage taken by Facebook user Go.Rangeley captures a “crunchy walk” in the snow on Sunday afternoon. “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!” they wrote. Parts of Maine received several inches of snow by Monday morning. A winter storm warning remained in effect for Rangeley until 1 pm Monday, with additional snow accumulations up to two inches bringing storm totals between 8 and 14 inches.
