Born and raised in NJ, Carishma grew up with her grandmother’s love of music. Her late grandmother was a well-known folk & classical singer on All India Radio of Rajasthan. Unsurprisingly, Carishma grew up passionate about the arts and was drawn to pop, soul, and R&B. She has cited Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Sade, & Janet Jackson as a few of her inspirations. As a child, Carishma grew up acting, singing, and dancing for any audience who would have her. She performed at venues as small as the family kitchen and as large as a 1,300-seat performance hall. In 1998, she played the leading child role in an HBO movie, Star of Jaipur. By age 15, Carishma signed to an independent record label, where she wrote and recorded every day after school. After high school, she was accepted into the prestigious Gallatin program at NYU, where she created her own major combining business and performing arts. While in school, Carishma networked her way into working with top producers, including Rodney Jerkins and Timbaland, and her music reached millions. Her debut release, “Glow in the Dark,” reached No. 27 on the Billboard Dance Charts. After persevering through personal trauma and music industry adversity, Carishma has completed an album with Grammy-winning producer, Troy ‘R8dio’ Johnson. Their magnetic collaboration has created a unique sound, combining 90s dance music with modern house. Carishma's self-titled, highly anticipated album, is set to release in Summer 2020.
