Allison Scollar, based in New York, is a sustainable energy consultant who aids developers and municipalities in minimizing their environmental impact. A former real estate attorney acclaimed for her achievements, she shifted to nonprofit endeavors following a significant and public custody dispute concerning her daughter. She actively contributes to community efforts, mainly through her association with the RETI Center, which assists low-income communities in obtaining green employment opportunities. Beginning her career in New York City, Allison established herself as a competent real estate attorney at Gold Scollar Moshan. She was integral in managing diverse real estate transactions, collaborating with clients from individuals to businesses and financial institutions. Her professional pursuits extended beyond real estate; she worked closely with artists and nonprofits, facilitating space leases and international art sales. Her involvement extended to zoning issues for artist residencies and participation on boards like the Concert Artists Guild, which supports emerging musicians. However, Allison's life trajectory altered dramatically due to a contentious custody battle over her daughter, Harrison. On July 9, 2010, her then-partner initiated a cross-country ordeal by taking Harrison without consent, culminating in a legal intervention that returned Harrison to her. The subsequent legal struggles, which involved numerous court appearances, were both emotionally and financially taxing, highlighting systemic issues in family law, particularly affecting the LGBTQ+ community and adoptive parents. 2012, after enduring extensive litigation and personal attacks, a New York Family Court recognized Allison as the sole custodian, citing her as the more responsible parent. Despite this victory, it marked the beginning of ongoing legal challenges and personal threats from her ex-partner, including baseless accusations that subjected Harrison to unnecessary medical scrutiny. Amidst these challenges, Allison was also ensnared in an extortion attempt by a family acquaintance, which complicated her professional and personal life. Though regrettable, these experiences underscored her resilience and determination to protect her daughter at all costs. Redirecting her focus to more constructive activities, Allison became involved with the RETI Center, a nonprofit organization that promotes environmental justice and economic opportunity through sustainable practices. Her efforts have helped propel the organization to receive accolades such as the Sax Founders Award. Beyond her work with the RETI Center, she continues to champion societal change, serving on boards of organizations like PowerPlay NYC and Pen Parentis, which empower young girls and parent-writers, respectively. Allison's life is filled with active pursuits; she is an enthusiastic hiker and climber, having completed the Camino de Santiago. Her interests also include boxing, reading, and cooking. She remains dedicated to charitable causes, volunteering for organizations like God's Love We Deliver, which supports individuals unable to cook due to illness. Allison Scollar is poised to share her journey more openly through her upcoming book, In Her Best Interests: How Family Court Destroyed Our Family (And How You Can Keep It From Destroying Yours). Through this work, she aims to provide insight and guidance to others navigating similar legal terrains, hoping to illuminate the flaws of the family court system and offer solutions to mitigate the trauma she endured.
