Charles Douyon is a seasoned legal and compliance professional with more than 12 years of experience in financial regulations. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he developed a love for sports early on, particularly basketball and football. His time in Long Island during high school saw him continue to excel in these sports, learning the values of teamwork, leadership, and discipline—skills that would later serve him well in his professional career. After high school, Charles enrolled at Northeastern University in Boston. Still, following September 11, 2001, he transferred to Berkeley College in New York to be closer to his family during a challenging time. At Berkeley, he pursued a degree in Business Management and Finance, graduating magna cum laude in 2005. This academic achievement was the foundation for his dual career interests in business and law, setting the stage for his future endeavors. Upon graduation, Charles began his professional career in finance, joining a well-known financial institution on Wall Street. In the high-pressure environment of Wall Street, he gained invaluable insights into investment strategies, financial markets, and the overall dynamics of business operations. However, after several years in finance, he realized his interest in finance-related legal matters grew, prompting a significant career shift. In 2007, Charles left his finance position and pursued a law degree at Northwestern University School of Law. The transition from finance to law presented challenges, but his background in business management gave him a unique perspective on legal issues, especially those related to financial regulations. He graduated in 2010, just as the financial industry underwent substantial regulatory changes after the Global Financial Crisis. To further deepen his expertise, Charles pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) at Fordham University Law School, specializing in Corporate, Banking, and Finance Law. This advanced program allowed him to build on his knowledge of financial law and regulations. During his studies, he also gained hands-on experience through internships with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). These internships provided him with a comprehensive understanding of regulatory compliance, enforcement, and the application of laws in real-world settings. Charles has held various legal and compliance roles throughout his career, advising financial institutions and investment firms on complex regulatory matters. His expertise spans critical regulations such as the Dodd-Frank Act, the Securities Exchange Act, and the Investment Advisers Act. Outside of his professional career, Charles remains passionate about sports. He continues to play basketball and football recreationally and has also developed an interest in endurance sports, completing the Chicago Marathon and participating in multiple half-marathons.
