Dr. Todd Kevin Young, a distinguished 54-year-old from Springdale, Newfoundland, has been a transformative figure in the healthcare field. As the founder and Medical Director of Main Street Medical Clinic and the CEO of MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc., he has pioneered approaches that significantly enhance medical accessibility and quality, particularly in rural areas. Dr. Young's career in healthcare began with a Diploma in Nursing, which he obtained in 2001 from the Western Memorial Regional Hospital School of Nursing. His early professional experiences were marked by his time as an outpost nurse in northern Ontario’s Indigenous communities—a role that profoundly influenced his perspective on healthcare delivery. He continued his education at Lakehead University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and qualifying as a Nurse Practitioner in 2000. His commitment to advancing his medical expertise led him to McMaster University, where he received his medical degree in 2004. He then completed a residency in rural family medicine. Dr. Young also holds an Executive MBA in Occupational Health and Safety and is completing a Diploma in Dermatology at Cardiff University. Dr. Young has served in numerous pivotal roles, including physician lead at the Green Bay Health Center in Springdale and as Medical Director at Valley Vista Seniors Home. He also fulfilled duties as a Medical Examiner, involving crucial investigations into community health and safety incidents. In 2016, Dr. Young embarked on two significant entrepreneurial ventures: establishing Main Street Medical Clinic and launching MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc. The clinic was one of the first in the region to integrate traditional healthcare services with telemedicine, drastically improving healthcare access for residents in isolated areas. Similarly, MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc. has been at the forefront of virtual healthcare, offering remote consultations and treatments that bridge the gap for those unable to access in-person care. Dr. Young’s innovative spirit is also evident in his development of Newfoundland and Labrador’s first rapid access addictions program, providing immediate support to those battling addiction across the province. His initiatives in occupational health have likewise set standards for workplace wellness and safety, benefitting numerous organizations and their employees. Beyond his clinical and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Young is passionate about medical education. He has taught extensively at Memorial University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, focusing on preparing students to practice in diverse and challenging environments. Dr. Young’s numerous contributions to medicine and public health have earned him various accolades, including a Human Rights Award nomination and several fellowships recognizing his dedication to rural health and family medicine. He is deeply involved in his community, supporting local sports initiatives and charitable causes, demonstrating his commitment to societal well-being.
