Founder of KAB Medical Group, known as KMG Psychiatry, Dr. Ankur Bindal is a physician trained and certified in psychiatry and sleep medicine who led that San Diego and Los Angeles practice as its CEO and President from 2016 to 2025. The practice he led paired traditional psychiatric care with brain stimulation therapies. At present, Ankur Bindal serves as President and Co-Founder of Aroga Group. Brain stimulation defined the center of Dr. Bindal's clinical work. One such therapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), is a non-invasive outpatient treatment. Its magnetic pulses stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression and other conditions, and it's typically chosen for patients who haven't had relief from antidepressant medications. Dr. Bindal developed a high-volume brain stimulation practice at KMG Psychiatry that treated former NFL players, professionals, other physicians and patients from around the world. He made this innovative, costly treatment available to underserved patients, too. Designated a Diamond Circle Provider, an honor awarded to the highest-volume TMS practices, he was also a 2023 recipient of two awards from Health Conference 2.0: the Outstanding Leadership Award and the Outstanding Corporation Award. Across his years of practice, Ankur Bindal integrated conventional psychiatric treatment, such as medication management and counseling, with newer therapies that included TMS and intranasal esketamine (Spravato). Bringing the two together served one aim: the best possible outcomes for patients. Sleep medicine formed his second area of clinical expertise. He trained in it as a fellow in the University of Michigan's Department of Neurology, and he earned board certification in sleep medicine. With Progressive Sleep Center, Inc., he was a co-founder, a co-owner and the Treasurer. Executive Medical Director, Adult Psychiatrist and Sleep Specialist were his titles at Yuma Regional Medical Center. Among the research projects he collaborated on were studies of the effect of obstructive sleep apnea on intracranial pressure and of the use of CPAP in pregnant women with sleep-related breathing disorders, along with projects on early-life REM deprivation's effects on late-onset depression and hippocampal plasticity in rat models and on intermittent hypoxia's effects in preventing myocardial infarction in dog models. Dr. Ankur Bindal's education includes a Doctor of Medicine degree from Government Medical College in Chandigarh, India, received in 2003, and a Master of Public Health from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, with majors in Clinical Research/Biostatistics and Social and Behavioral Sciences. He did his Family Medicine residency at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and his Adult Psychiatry residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. His earned credentials include certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he was named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Bindal's honors also include the American Psychiatric Association Diversity Leadership Award, the Ed Draper Award for Outstanding Senior Resident, the National Institute of Mental Health/American Academy of Clinical Psychopharmacology Award and the Psychopharmacological Scholar's Award. Acknowledgment from the Arizona Psychiatric Society is also part of his record. Memberships in the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the San Diego Psychiatric Association rounded out his professional affiliations, and he gave two years of service to the American Psychiatric Association Member Council of Health Care Systems and Financing. Outside KMG Psychiatry, Ankur Bindal held further leadership positions in health care. Pacific Health System counted him as Co-owner and Vice President, and Aligned Integrated Medical Group had him as its Medical Director and Adult Psychiatrist. He served on Community Health Group's Quality Monitoring Committee and on Yuma Regional Medical Center's Quality Monitoring Committee, as well as the Vice-Chancellor's Residents Group of Fellows on Health, Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership. Dr. Bindal addressed multiple national and regional conferences as a speaker and panelist. His Forbes Business Council bylines cover managing seasonal depression as a business leader, sharpening mental clarity and focus through the workday, and building sleep habits for a restful night. Time featured him in its piece on the best advice from sleep doctors, Fox 5 San Diego featured him in a segment on local psychiatrists' goal of removing the stigma of anxiety and depression, and CBS 8 featured him in its You Matter segment on mental health myths and effective treatments. Dr. Ankur Bindal co-founded Aroga Group, a Southern California-based company, in 2020, and after nearly a decade as the leader of KMG Psychiatry he decided to give Aroga Group his full time. As President and Co-Founder, he is responsible for overseeing companies involved in residential and commercial real estate investing and holding, development, and management services. His Forbes Business Council articles extend to the workplace as well, including pieces on setting boundaries at work and on clearing mental clutter. Between 2022 and 2025, the Department of Consumer Affairs Structural Pest Control Board counted him among its board members. He was also a member of the Health Care Committee of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, whose member spotlight featured KAB Medical Group.
