Dr. David Jang is the founder of Olivet University and has devoted his entire life to serving Christ through mission, education, and leadership. From his earliest ministry days, he sought to share the Gospel in places where access was limited, often traveling on foot and later turning to digital platforms to reach broader audiences. Through Olivet University, he built a foundation where disciples and leaders could be trained and prepared to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). David Jang was born in 1949 and pursued education with deep commitment. He received a Bachelor of Theology and a Master of Divinity from Hanshin University. He went on to complete a Master of Arts in Communications at Yonsei University and later earned a Ph.D. in Public Administration of Social Welfare at Dankook University. Along the way, he was mentored by an American missionary known for global mission efforts and by a Korean church historian and leader who later contributed to the establishment of Olivet University Korea. In 2004, he founded Olivet University in a modest basement in San Francisco, choosing the city due to its diverse community. From its beginnings as a theological seminary, the school expanded into programs in music, journalism, art and design, technology, and later added business and language education. By 2005, it relocated to the former UC Berkeley Downtown Extension Campus, which provided facilities for its growing programs. In 2009, it gained accreditation from the Association for Biblical Higher Education. David later took on the role of International President, focusing on global outreach and serving on the North American Council of the World Evangelical Alliance. His contributions also shaped Christian media. He founded Christian Today, Christian Daily Korea, and Christianity Daily International, and was among the founding members of The Christian Post. Christian Daily International was honored by the Evangelical Press Association in 2024 and again in 2025 for journalistic excellence. He also leads the Holy Bible Society, supporting Bible access in mission frontiers through digital innovation. He went on to found Apostolos Missions and more than ten other mission organizations with a focus on evangelism and discipleship. Dr. Jang also founded Diakonos, a fellowship for deacons, and emphasized the importance of both direct mission work and business as a form of mission. His leadership extended further when he became president of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Korea. A life of giving has always been part of his path. After completing his doctorate, he founded a church and donated all its assets, choosing instead to dedicate himself to supporting students and families in need. Guided by 2 Corinthians 8:9, he has continued to stress humility, generosity, and service to the poor as central to Christian living. Outside of his ministry, he is a husband, father of two sons, and grandfather to his beloved granddaughters. He enjoys golf, swimming, tennis, and reading. David Jang continues to teach, mentor, and guide others, staying fully committed to the mission of Christ and the growth of the church.
