Dr. Ofikwu has had a strong passion to help others since he was a child, and he immediately realized that being a surgeon would give him with not only the path, but also the means to build a life around that avocation. Born and raised in Nigeria, he received his medical degree from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in 2000, where he was awarded the honor of "Best Graduating Medical Student in Surgery." He began his career as a house medical officer before moving on to become a resident Surgeon at the same academic medical center. Dr. Ofikwu worked as the Assistant Director of the Department of Quality Management at Harlem Hospital after relocating to the city in 2006 from Nigeria. Additionally, he completed his general surgery residency program at The Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons at Harlem Hospital Medical Center at the end of the calendar year 2015. Dr. Ofikwu completed his surgical oncology residency at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Cancer Institute of America. Colorectal surgery fellowship program was completed at the Ferguson Clinic-Michigan State University by Dr. Ofikwu. The next year, Dr. Ofikwu began working as an Attending Colorectal Surgeon with Atlantic Health System. Shore Surgical Associates was based in New Jersey before relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2017 to serve patients. His successful General and Colorectal surgical practices, Global Surgical Solutions and Colorectal Surgical Associates of Nevada, have enjoyed great development in recent years. He has affiliations with a number of hospitals in the Southern Nevada area. He has also earned a reputation for accepting difficult patients that other surgeons would ordinarily turn away from, providing him a distinct competitive advantage. Among his professional affiliations are the American College of Surgeons, which he has been a member of since 2011, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons since 2012, and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, which he has been a member of since 2014. Dr. Ofikwu is a board-certified surgeon with the American Board of Surgery as well as the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery on his credentials. In addition, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 2018, Dr. Ofikwu was presented with the Desert Springs Hospital Service Excellence Award for the second quarter, which was presented by then-CEO Ryan Jensen. A number of his articles in Surgery have been published or co-authored by others. The Ofikwu Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting resource-poor patients in obtaining access to surgery and adequate preventative care when Dr. Ofikwu is not enjoying hoops or watching movies with his children. While bringing progressive, health-forward programs to impoverished communities, he is equally concerned with investing extensively in children's education and improving the livelihoods of those communities. Doctor Ofikwu's call to service was loud and clear as a child, and he has always enjoyed the human interaction and interpersonal relationships that have developed as a result of caring for his patients and seeing them achieve healthy, active lifestyles through the use of cutting-edge treatment methods.
