After completing paramedic school in 1984, Gerald joined American Medical Response as an Emergency Paramedic. He continued his involvement in the firefighting community by joining the Foresthill Fire Protection District, where he used his vast experience to mentor new firefighters and provide strategic guidance. Gerald also served in various capacities throughout his career, emphasizing his versatility and commitment to public safety. He worked as an EMT with Pomeroy Ambulance Services and provided emergency medical services at the Concord Pavilion, overseeing care at large-scale events for over a decade. Additionally, his expertise in emergency management extended to his role as a communications specialist with the Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 4, where he responded to national disasters, proving essential in high-pressure environments. Gerald also held the Division/Group Supervisor position on a Type 3 Incident Management Team, coordinating responses to significant emergencies, such as hurricanes and wildfires nationwide. His leadership was instrumental during critical situations like the 1989 Oakland Firestorm and the 1991 Loma Prieta Earthquake, where his decision-making skills were crucial in managing complex emergency operations. Outside of his professional achievements, Gerald is deeply passionate about physical fitness and the great outdoors. An avid adventurer, he regularly engages in hiking, mountain biking, and skiing, maintaining a high level of fitness that complements his active lifestyle. He also competes in off-road motorcycle racing, participating in events such as the Virginia City Grand Prix, which challenge his physical endurance and mental grit. Dedicated to maintaining his health and vitality, Gerald follows a ketogenic diet, which he believes is critical in sustaining his energy and physical fitness. He promotes a balanced lifestyle, integrating rigorous physical activity with disciplined nutritional habits.
