Born on November 8, 2002, in Rochester, New York, Ryan Francis Gustin has always had a keen interest in engineering and a passion for serving his community. His journey from Penfield, New York, to studying Civil Engineering at Penn State highlights his strong commitment to academic achievement and giving back to others. Ryan began his education at Plank Road North Elementary in Webster, New York, where he attended from first to fifth grade. He discovered his love for technology during this time, mainly through participating in Lego robotics. This early involvement sparked his curiosity about engineering and problem-solving, setting the foundation for his future studies. Alongside his academic interests, he also participated in sports like football, basketball, and baseball, where he developed teamwork, leadership, and time-management skills that would help him throughout his life. After elementary school, Ryan moved on to McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, where he embraced the school's values of service and leadership. It was at McQuaid that his engineering skills began to shine. He was selected as the team lead for the McQuaid IgKnighters Robotics Team, where he helped design and build the robot's climbing mechanism. His team’s achievement in winning the “Excellence in Engineering” award was a highlight of his high school years. Additionally, he gained practical experience with the school’s CNC Mill, which allowed him to design and fabricate parts from materials like aluminum and steel, further deepening his understanding of engineering principles. Ryan Francis Gustin New York’s dedication to community service has always been a cornerstone of his life. He volunteered at the House of Mercy Homeless Shelter, distributing gifts during the holiday season to those in need. He also participated in the St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry, supporting individuals with limited family connections. Ryan spent over 170 hours volunteering at Maplewood Nursing Home, where he assisted elderly residents and formed meaningful relationships with them. His service was recognized in middle school when he received the St. Ignatius Loyola Award for completing over 200 volunteer hours. In addition to his service work, Ryan gained valuable professional experience at Oak Hill Country Club, where he assisted in various roles, including helping with golf carts and the bag room. He also contributed to the 2023 PGA Championship, which provided insight into large-scale events' operations. His experience working at Hedges Nine Mile Point Restaurant helped him refine his customer service and multitasking skills.
