Scott Saffold is a board-certified otolaryngologist, founder, and medical director of Chesapeake Bay ENT, a leading ear, nose, and throat practice serving the Southeastern Virginia region. Since 2001, he has led the Belle Haven-based clinic in its development from a single-location practice in a medically underserved rural area into a respected, multi-site organization. The practice has earned recognition for delivering evidence-based, technologically advanced care that is grounded in compassion and respect. In May 2026, he will celebrate 25 years of practicing medicine in the state of Virginia. His leadership style emphasizes service, quality, and team growth. Dr Scott Saffold has built a workplace culture focused on continuous improvement, encouraging his staff to adopt innovative practices, make informed decisions using data, and always prioritize quality care. Through this approach, many team members—from front desk staff to advanced practice providers—have advanced their careers and achieved personal milestones. Rather than consolidating care in a large, centralized setting, he has chosen to create smaller, community-based sites that reflect the individual character and needs of each neighborhood. This structure has helped strengthen relationships with referring physicians and provided patients with a more personal, accessible healthcare experience. Saffold has remained committed to providing care to all individuals, regardless of their insurance status. Dr Saffold has been a leader in integrating advanced practice providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants, into specialty care. He has also implemented innovations such as AI-assisted medical documentation, in-office CT scanning, and in-office laryngeal biopsies to improve patient experience, diagnostic precision, and clinical outcomes. Saffold contributes to the larger healthcare community by serving on the board of a regional hospital system and forming partnerships to expand access to care in rural Virginia. He is regularly featured in local media for his expertise on sinonasal disease and balloon sinus dilation. He has published academic research on topics such as selective neck dissection, tumor immunology, and the use of dermal allografts in reconstructive surgery. Since 2014, he has also served as the Medical Director of the Virginia Sinus Center in Virginia Beach. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology and a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr Scott Saffold received a degree in Cell Biology from UC Berkeley in 1990. He earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College, graduating at the top of his class and being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. His postgraduate training included a General Surgery Internship at the University of New York at Buffalo, a research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and a residency in otolaryngology at Oregon Health Sciences University. His training covered a wide range of subspecialties, including otology, pediatric otolaryngology, endoscopic sinus surgery, facial plastic surgery, and head and neck radiology. He selected general otolaryngology to provide the broadest range of care to his community. Dr Saffold is the sponsor of a scholarship at Meharry Medical College that supports underrepresented students in medicine and holds an MBA from Old Dominion University's Strome College of Business in Norfolk, Virginia. His academic achievements have been recognized through numerous awards, including membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the Wantanabe Scholar award, and honors in anatomy, pathology, internal medicine, and hematology. Outside of medicine, Scott Saffold is a dedicated father of two, a youth football coach, and an endurance athlete who has completed several marathons and triathlons, including two half-Ironman events.
