Sean Mannix is a seasoned law enforcement professional with 36 years of experience in public safety. Throughout his career, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including Assistant Chief of Police in Austin and Chief of Police in Cedar Park, Texas. His work has been focused on enhancing policing strategies, advancing officer training, and promoting strong community leadership. Following his retirement in 2020, Sean continued to serve the public as the Statewide Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Texas Department of Transportation. Born in California and raised as one of five children, Sean was inspired from an early age to pursue a career in law enforcement, influenced by his father, who worked in the field. At 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, a decision that helped him develop invaluable leadership skills and a strong work ethic. Sean holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College, where he graduated with honors, and a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University. His education is complemented by completing several leadership programs, including the FBI National Academy, the Leadership Command College, and the Senior Management Institute for Police. After his military service, Sean began his law enforcement career with the Alameda Police Department in California, becoming the youngest officer at 20. In 1993, he moved to Austin, Texas, where he joined the Austin Police Department and spent the next two decades climbing the ranks. He became Assistant Chief, overseeing key divisions like the Organized Crime Division and Central Bureau. Sean's leadership in Austin helped reduce crime through initiatives like the COMPSTAT model and enhanced community outreach programs. In 2013, Sean became the Chief of Police for the Cedar Park Police Department. He implemented numerous key initiatives, such as improving officer training, focusing on community policing, and introducing programs like de-escalation training, body-worn cameras, and a wellness program for officers. Under his leadership, the department became one of the region’s most respected and desirable workplaces, with a diverse workforce and a strong relationship with the community. Sean's leadership earned national recognition, with the Cedar Park Police Department achieving dual accreditation from the Texas Police Chiefs Association and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The department also became known for participating in National Night Out, an initiative promoting community engagement. After retiring in 2020, Retired Chief Sean Mannix remained involved in law enforcement and public safety through his work with Sigma Tactical Wellness and his support for Williamson County Crime Stoppers. Outside of his career, Sean enjoys spending time with his wife and four daughters. He has a passion for aviation, fishing, and reading and believes continuous learning is essential for staying sharp and engaged.
