Shravan Parsi hails from Hyderabad, India, where he grew up in a family shaped by education and perseverance. His father, though living with a mild disability, rose to become one of the top medical doctors in Hyderabad. This set an example for Shravan, showing him that steady effort and discipline could turn challenges into success. As a student, Shravan was curious and eager to learn. In the seventh grade, he moved to a new school to study English, preparing himself to connect with the broader world. After junior college, when he did not secure admission to medical school, he chose a different path by pursuing a bachelor’s in pharmacy at Manipal, one of India’s top schools in an international university town. At Manipal, Shravan combined his scientific studies with entrepreneurial ambition and formed the vision of one day creating a pharmaceutical and biotech company. After completing his undergraduate degree, Shravan continued his education in the United States. He was admitted to St. John’s University in New York and received a scholarship covering most of his tuition. He completed a master’s in pharmaceutics & industrial pharmacy while working as a teaching assistant in the compounding pharmacy lab. Shravan began his career as a pharmaceutical scientist at Schering-Plough (now Merck) in New Jersey and later worked at DPT Labs and Health Point in San Antonio. He contributed to the development of OTC and prescription drugs, including a patented antiseptic drug for hospital-acquired infections and a wound care therapy created for the US military. These experiences strengthened his skills in product development and data-driven decision-making. During this time, Shravan began investing in real estate. While working full-time, he purchased his first single-family home and managed it in the evenings. What started as a side project soon became profitable, leading him to leave the laboratory and focus on entrepreneurship. He founded American Ventures, a real estate investment and development firm in Austin, Texas. The company specializes in multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, and hospitality properties, focusing on value-add acquisitions and thoughtful development. Under his leadership, American Ventures has acquired or developed more than 4,000 units across $450MM in assets. From 2018 to 2022, Shravan oversaw the exit of more than 3,500 units with a weighted average internal rate of return (IRR) of 31.6%. In 2019, Shravan released The Science of the Deal: The DNA of Multifamily & Commercial Real Estate Investing with Forbes Books. The Amazon Bestseller reflects his scientific and business background, offering practical insights for structuring and executing investments. Beyond business, Shravan serves on Pratham USA’s Austin chapter board, is a trustee at the Austin Hindu Temple and Cedar Park Temple, and is a member of YPO’s Austin chapter. He has also been recognized with awards such as Multifamily Developer of the Year and Multifamily Investor of the Year at the RED Awards. Shravan enjoys traveling, exploring cultures, and spending time with family and friends outside of work. His journey from scientist to CEO reflects his belief in using time wisely, making clear decisions, and leaving each endeavor better than it was found.
