Honeybee Wiggles Stinger From Keeper's Hand, Avoids Inevitable Death

Video from a beekeeper in St Petersburg, Florida, shows a honeybee appearing to reconsider stinging the apiarist, wiggling around to dislodge its stinger from the keeper’s hand, and avoiding the inevitable death that would have followed. Beekeeper Elisha Bixler, who runs an online honey store, explained to Storyful that when a honeybee stings, its venom and stinger are released into the skin but their intestines are ripped out too, leaving them to die. “You can see how she moves in a circular motion to dislodge her stinger. Animals Have 'Gourd' Time With Pumpkins at Washington's Point Defiance Zoo

Polar bears, beavers, and a musk ox were treated to enriching Halloween-themed snacks in the form of pumpkins at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in early October. The zoo posted several clips of the animals enjoying the treats in their own unique ways. Polar bear twins Astra and Laerke smashed the gourds, while beavers Butternut, Walnut, and Nutmeg munched and lounged in a pumpkin-filled pool. Hudson, the musk ox, head-butted a pumpkin all around his enclosure. According to the zoo’s website, the animals will be enjoying these tasty treats from Saturday, October 14, to Sunday, October 15. Shelter Cat Seeking Cuddles Parks Himself on Computer Keyboard

An adorable rescue cat named Babble let a worker at an animal shelter know he was tired of all the attention she was giving her computer by plopping down on her keyboard recently. Video filmed by Jenny Agnew, an employee at Five Acres Animal Shelter, shows Babble meowing as he lays across the desk of one of the shelter’s other team members on Tuesday, August 29. Babble was transferred to the shelter on August 18 from a small animal pound in Missouri that was understaffed, Agnew told Storyful. “It’s not uncommon at some of these smaller, rural shelters for the animals to be euthanized when the one staff member goes on vacation because there’s no one else to care for them,” she said, adding that Babble was at risk of being euthanized at the pound. He was rescued from the pound by the Heartland Humane Society of Missouri, before being transferred to Five Acres Animal Shelter.
