Paola de la Peña is currently in her final year of her BFA at Paris College of Art in Paris. France. Though her work she tries to capture the vibrations that she has experience in Mexico; her native country. She finds Mexico full of color and beautiful disorder; where a hole in a wall is hidden with neon plastic flowers in front of it instead of being covered with plaster. Everything is covered up with adornments, as if to distract you from the reality of a crumbling house, a rusty fence, or an unkempt grave. When she is in Mexico she observes things that are very well crafted but terribly maintained. It’s a culture that seems to only live in the present, forgetting about the past and not preparing for the future. Their process is additive and rarely subtractive which can be observed in the work. This leads to the creation of countless tiny objects that form a larger structure which unifies all objects. This phenomenon can be appreciated in her work. She prefers moving on to create something new rather than polish something that’s already done.
